Suzy Quilts
My name is Suzanne Griffiths, known by many for most of my life as Suzy
and my best friends as Suzy-Q, I am the creative force behind suzyqquilts.etsy.com
on etsy. I have been sewing for as long as I can remember. As a young
girl my mom would always make my special first day of school outfit. It
was so much fun to go to the fabric store, look through all of the
patterns and pick out the fabrics.
When I was in 3rd grade my
mom gave me my first sewing lesson and I was hooked. I sewed clothes
for my dolls, learned to knit and counted cross stitch. In college I
used to cross stitch to take my mind off of the stresses of studying,
social life etc. The girls in my sorority would question how counting
all those little squares and getting the right number of 'x's in the
right places could be relaxing. For me it was a way to escape, the path
was laid out for me and I could just follow along and create something
beautiful.
In 96-97 I was pregnant with my first kidlet. It was
then that I decided I wanted to learn how to quilt. I wanted to make
him that special blankie that he would carry around everywhere and
someday would end up so worn and loved it would barely stay together.
Kind of like Linus in Charlie Brown. Again, that was it I was addicted.
That was 13 years ago.
Quilting for many years has been my
escape from reality, my pick me up on a bad day or my comfort when I'm
down. Working with the fabrics and textures is soothing and comforting.
The colors, tones and patterns can be very theraputic. If I need some
energy I pull out some bright primary colors, feeling like I want
something warm and soothing I pull out the earth tones and fall colors.
Like
many people right now the company I was working for went out of
business in May. The last two years of work had been very stressful and
took a toll on me I hadn't realized. Now that I had more time on my
hands I went right to quilting again. It was at this point that I
decided I had the fantastic oppotunity to start to build a business
where I could do what I truly loved each and everyday. Suzyqquilts was
born.
With Suzyqquilts I make not only quilts, but totes, kids
backpacks, purses, journal covers, book covers, laptop cases and more.
I have been experimenting with painting on fabrics, designing my own
stencils and creating custom bags and purses for customers. Here are
some links where you can follow me and find out about my newest

No harm, no foul, but lots and lots of love!
